What is music therapy?

Music therapy is the skillful use of music and musical elements by an accredited music therapist to promote, maintain, and restore mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Music has nonverbal, creative, structural, and emotional qualities. These are used in the therapeutic relationship to facilitate contact, interaction, self-awareness, learning, self-expression, communication, and personal development. What can Music Therapy Achieve?

Using music as a therapeutic medium, music therapists develop clinical goals and objectives for their clients. Some objectives include:
  • Improving expressing and receptive communication and speaking skills
  • Behaviour management
  • Improving motor abilities
  • Improving self esteem
  • Promoting relaxation
  • Expressing and understanding feelings
  • Pain and symptom management

Song Writing Camp for Ages 5, 6, and 7
July 4th to July 8th 
1:00pm to 3pm 
Monday to Thursday at St. James 3214 West 10th Ave.
Friday at the studio downtown

This is a Music Therapy camp to help children focus on communication goals, corodinating their music with peers and self expression. Participants will write the lyrics and arrange the instrumentation of their songs as well as play them and record them in the studio at the end of the week. The camp will also include musical play and games with working with the same goals. 

Total session size: 4 participants
