Parent Participation Music Class for Chidlren Ages 4-5
St. James in Kits Saturdays at 12pm
Big kids know what they like. Telling silly stories. Playing games. Being in charge. Rhythm Kids® classes tap into how children this age are wired to learn, with music games, rhythmic stories, lots of drumming and high energy stomping-flying-climbing fun.
Students will compose, choreograph, and conduct using djembe drums, their voices and their bodies. They will have opportunities to lead their peers, solo, improvise and work in an ensemble. While learning to think and create like a musician, they’ll also build musical connections to the global community by learning drumming rhythms inspired by musical traditions around the world, from West African Gahu, to Japanese Taiko, to Brazilian Samba.
Students can bring their own djembe drum to class or purchase a djembe from us to keep and use in class. Along with playing their drums, they will play various percussion instruments, and, the most importantly use their voices and their bodies to make music. As your big kid learns to think and create like a musician, they’ll also build musical connections to with their friends! Classes include:
- immersion in the musical language of many cultures
- playful music games with rules
- opportunities to lead, balanced with opportunities to collaborate
- deep exposure to complex, fun, and rockin' music
- many chances to solo, improvise, and work in ensembles
- rich, creative experimentation and expression, improvisation, and innovation
Rhythm Kids® follows through on the Music Together® vision to help children complete the pathway of early childhood music development from birth through age 8. As part of the Rhythm Kids® experience, children and their grownups can enjoy drumming play and practice sessions at home with the help of online play-along videos featuring Rhythm Kids® creator Tom Foote.
